Pt#3762 Premier 865 Damper Vane Fulcrum Plate

Inside the damper box of the Premier 865 tubular bell frame (and similar models) is the damper vane. This is the felted board that is rotated by the pull rod and pedal system to push the bells against the circular cutouts in the midgates. The vane has pegs in either end which go into the large hole in the middle of the component, creating the fulcrum point around which it rotates. The slots either side are for the fixings and alignment.

These fulcrum plates tend to snap because the design could have been better. I don’t really want to do a destructive test comparison between my parts and the original, but these replacements are probably a little bit stronger, although the options were limited. If you need to replace these parts, hopefully they go into the instrument correctly, because there really shouldn’t be that much force going onto them along their weakest axis. In other words, they snap because they are not in the right place. This might simply be caused by the mounting screws working loose.

As usual, I did tweak the design a bit to address associated problems. They should work as they are, but this depends on the generation of instrument, which determines the size and material of the fulcrum pin. Consequently, I make them so that they can be reamed out to fit the pins in the vane I am working on. So, if you don’t have a reamer, you’ll need to measure the size of your pin and include it in your enquiry. To measure the pin, you will need verniers or micrometers.
